principal work is to award grants, as approved by the Board of Directors,
to institutions and individuals conducting China-related research
and academic ventures. All proposals received by the Foundation are
reviewed both by experts in appropriate fields as well as by the respective
Review Committee for each of the four regions. This two-tiered evaluation
process ensures that each application receives full and unbiased scrutiny.
Review committees consist of leading scholars and social scientists
in various fields of Sinology, who served fixed terms of two years,
after which one-third of the committee members are rotated. There
are four Review Committees in these four regions: the North American
region, the European region, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Domestic
region. After the review committee ranks proposals, they are submitted
to the Board of Directors for final approval according to the availability
of the year's funding budget.
