Mobility Grants


BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Graduate students and faculty (professors and researchers) who have a full-time affiliation at academic institutions in Eastern and Central Europe, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia may apply for mobility grants to attend conferences, collect source materials, or undertake fieldwork.

For Southeast Asia and South Asia, a maximum of $1,000 for faculty and $800 for graduate students may be awarded. For Eastern and Central Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia, a maximum of $1,500 for faculty and $1,000 for graduate students may be awarded.

Students and scholars interested in applying for funding to cover one-week visits for specialized research at Sinological libraries in Cambridge, Heidelberg, Leiden, London, Munich, Oxford or Paris should feel free to apply to the EACS, Library Travel Grants program (http://www.chinesestudies.eu/index.php/resources/81-grants-and-awards/144-cck-foundation-library-travel-grant).

All applications must include the following items, in the order listed below:

  1. Project abstracts (in Chinese and English).
  2. A detailed itemized budget (If this sum is to be supplemented by matching funds, please include this information in the budget).
  3. A description of the proposed project of no more than 7 pages in length.
  4. Project director¡¦s curriculum vitae.
  5. Letters of support from the applicant(s) and participating institution(s).
  6. For conference participation, official letter from the organizers and proof of the paper¡¦s acceptance.
  7. Graduate students should also submit a letter of recommendation from their advisor or department chair.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Applications must be submitted to our online application database. E-mail and paper applications will not be accepted. Applications may be submitted every year from August 1 to September 15 and March 1 to April 15 of the following year (to start the application process, please click here).

DEADLINE

  1. The deadlines for Mobility Grants are:
    April 15¡Xfor academic events from June through December of the same year.
    September 15¡Xfor academic events from January through May of the subsequent year.
  2. Final results for applications made before October 15 are announced in late December. Results of applications submitted for the April 15 deadline are announced in early June.
  3. For applications which do not receive funding, the Foundation will inform the institutions and project directors within seven days after the results are made public. For applications that do receive support, the Foundation will inform the institutions and project directors as quickly as possible in order to arrange for contracts to be signed.
  4. The Foundation does not provide a written critique for unsuccessful applications.
